The Village of Winfield is located in the county of DuPage, Illinois approximately twenty-eight miles north of the city of Chicago. Winfield is served by the Metra Union Pacific/West Line with commuter service to Chicago. The area enjoys a continental climate that brings hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters, making it a beautiful place to be at any time of the year!
Winfield is an incorporated village located within the Winfield and Milton Townships. With a population of almost 10,000 residents, Winfield has grown from a fledging prairie town in the early 1920s to the viable and vibrant village it is today.
Hedges Station is the oldest building in Winfield and the oldest remaining depot in the state of Illinois. The Winfield Historical Society was formed to save Hedges Station, with plans to restore it and develop a portion of the building into a museum. Winfield also has one of the area's oldest taverns in existence. John's Restaurant and Tavern, currently operated by John Karwoski III was founded in 1921 by John Karwoski, grandfather to the tavern's present owner.
The Winfield Park District maintains fifteen parks that feature baseball and softball fields, basketball and tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, hiking trails, picnic areas with pavilions, and a gazebo for community events. In addition, the park district maintains the Charles R. Beggs Activity Center and Schmidt's Pond, as well as the WinFit Family Fitness Center.
