About Braidwood, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The city of Braidwood is located in Will County, Illinois approximately sixty miles southwest of Chicago and twenty miles southwest of the city of Joliet. Braidwood was at the center of the local coal mining industry during the mid to late 1800s. Upon incorporation in 1873, the city was named after James Braidwood, who was one of the community's early members and the man responsible for sinking the first deep-shaft coal mine in the area. Today, Braidwood is a small suburban Chicago community with a population of more than 5,000 residents that is proud of its coal mining roots and its contribution as a member of Chicagoland.
Located within the U. S. humid continental climate zone, Braidwood enjoys hot humid summers, cold snowy winters, and beautiful, mild weather during the springtime and fall seasons, making it a great place to live or visit any time of the year!
The city features numerous opportunities for recreation and entertainment, including the Mazonia/Braidwood Fish & Wildlife Area that offers some of the best waterfowl hunting and fishing in the area and the Fossil Rock Recreation Area that features excellent camping facilities, as well as swimming, fishing, canoeing, horseshoes, basketball, and hiking trails. For golf enthusiasts, Braidwood Fairways is a nine-hole regulation golf course and driving range located in nearby Wilmington. Located on Historic Route 66, the Braidwood restored train depot that is maintained by the Braidwood Area Historical Society is a historical site of interest, as is the Polka-a-Dot Drive-in, rated by Route 66 Author and Historian John Weiss as "the best 50s and 60s drive-in I have ever seen." Braidwood is also home to numerous community festivals and events, including the annual "Summerfest" that features a carnival, baby judging contest, mud volleyball games, and more.
Reasons to live in Braidwood are too numerous to mention, but certainly include small-town living, excellent schools, low taxes and crime, and all of the wonderful recreational opportunities available in Braidwood’s wide-open spaces!
