About Coal City, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The Village of Coal City is located in Grundy County, Illinois approximately fifty-five miles southwest of Chicago and twenty-six miles south of the city of Joliet. Coal City was originally settled in 1820 by Canadian trader Peter Lansett who mined coal from the area and sold it to local farmers who used it in place of the corn they had previously burned for heating and energy. Coalmines began opening throughout the area and continued to fuel the community's growth until the Village of Coal City was incorporated on August 17, 1881 with a population of nearly nine-hundred residents. Located in the U. S. humid continental climate zone, the village enjoys hot humid summers, cold snowy winters, and lovely mild weather during springtime and fall!
Coal City is served by numerous service and civic organizations that volunteer their time and talents to the community, including the Angels of Hope whose dedication and fundraising efforts resulted in the organization’s 69th angel memorial being placed in Coal City’s Campbell Memorial Park on October 7, 2006. Campbell Memorial Park is the location of the village’s "Concerts in the Park" series held during June, July, and August and the annual Angels of Hope 5K Run/Walk.
Today, Coal City is home to more than 5,000 residents and features community living at its best with excellent schools, numerous recreational opportunities, and an active and involved citizenry that make the village one of the best in Chicagoland!
