The Village of Manhattan is located in Will County, Illinois approximately forty-five miles southwest of the city of Chicago.  Settled by Irish and German immigrants during the early 1800s and incorporated in 1886, the village has seen significant growth over the last ten years and has a current population of over 6,000 residents.  The Village is served by the Metra Rail Line, and has easy access to I-55, I-80, and I-355.  Manhattan falls within the continental climate zone of the U.S. and brings hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters, with lovely fall and springtime weather.

Manhattan is home to six parks with recreational facilities including Central Park, which features three rental pavilions, baseball and multi-purpose fields, basketball and tennis courts, a skate park, horseshoe pit, two playgrounds, sand volleyball court, and fishing pond.  Other parks in the village maintained by the Manhattan Park District are the Round Barn Farm Park, Leighlinbridge Tot Lot, Leighlinbridge Park, the Century East Subdivision Playground, and the Gustafson Picnic Grove. 

The Manhattan Irish Fest is celebrated annually in the Village in honor of the community's Irish roots with a parade, entertainment tent, and family fun center.  The event is coordinated by the Irish American Society of County Will and put together with the help of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, as well as assistance from area churches, civic groups, and local sports clubs.
